Dental Inlays & Onlays
Not all dental damage occurs in the same places on your teeth, which is why at Grottoes Family Dentistry, our dentists and team offer dental inlays and onlays in Grottoes, Virginia. If you have a chip or small cavity, call Grottoes Family Dentistry at 540-249-4242 for your appointment with Dr. Dylan Hall to see if either of these treatments could improve the health and appearance of your smile.
Also known as “partial crowns,” dental inlays and onlays are a restorative treatment recommended when a tooth has sustained too much damage to be repaired by a filling but not enough to require a full dental crown. Inlays and onlays are custom made to fit your damaged tooth perfectly and provide you with a long-lasting result. They are typically made from porcelain, composite resin material or gold. Once placed, they work to restore the health, function and appearance of your teeth and smile. Inlays and onlays are also virtually invisible once placed and work to conserve as much of your natural tooth structure as possible. Inlays and onlays are often preferred over other restorative treatments due to the fact that they are a more conservative treatment option.
The difference between inlays and onlays is very small. A dental inlay is used when the damage to the tooth does not reach the cusps, or pointed ends, of the tooth. A dental onlay is used when the damage extends to one or more of the cusps. Our dentists will carefully examine your teeth to determine whether an inlay or an onlay is the right option for you.
